Feet spread

Yoga term: Prasarita Padottanasana

This is a good strengthening while relaxing pose. It is also a good warm up for working opening the front and insides of the hips; the groin. This is accomplished by working to get the feeling that you are grabbing or pinching the Earth using your legs. For a more advanced variation you can spread the legs further apart. I prefer to do this after the squatting half split.

Alignment points:

Feet parallel at a comfortable distance apart. Hips in line with the feet. knees rotated outward slightly. The muscles along the insides of the legs are active. Bending at the waste and keeping the back straight, place your hands on the floor shoulder width apart. for a more advanced variation you can place your hands through the legs and behind the feet.
